SIX people have been fined for littering at the recycling site at Dafen pond in Llanelli.

Fixed penalty notices for £75 have been issued by the council’s environmental enforcement unit following complaints from members of the public.

A further fine has also been issued to a man for leaving a bag on the ground at the recycling site at Llandovery car park.

Failure to pay could lead to court prosecution where the maximum fine is £2,500.

Officers will continue to carry out patrols across the county and use CCTV cameras to monitor sites.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “These sites are important facilities for the local community but all kinds of rubbish are being left and some people are just too lazy to use the recycling banks so just leave them on the ground instead.

“People are also leaving cardboard boxes and plastic bags around the litter bin. If the litter bin is full then take it home with you, to say that it is full is no excuse. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated and anyone caught will be prosecuted.”
