If you are running out of ideas to keep your children occupied this summer, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Play Works Team may have the answer to your problem.
The Play Works Team aims to develop the confidence and skills of children through family play activities.
The Team’s Play Takeaway service offers parents the chance to loan play equipment for free. The equipment is grouped into sacks made up of different themes that cater for all interests children may have. This ranges from items to inspire imaginations, board games, sports equipment and musical instruments. There are additional larger items that can be ordered in advance such as a puppet theatre, play parachute, karaoke machine, giant jenga and giant connect 4. There is also a badge making machine you can loan at a small additional cost.
Anyone who is a resident within Neath Port Talbot can register for the Play Takeaway service. You can borrow up to two sacks at a time and have them for up to a fortnight. All items in the sacks are suitable for children aged 2-11 years old.
There is also a dedicated section on the Play Works website that has a list of low cost play ideas and tips for parents to carry out with their children.
To register for the Play Takeaway service or to find out more about the Play Works Team, visit the website www.npt.gov.uk/play or like the page www.facebook.com/Playworks. Alternatively you can email the Team at playworks@npt.gov.uk or call us on 01639 873004.
Council Leader Ali Thomas OBE said, “The Play Takeaway service is an excellent way for children to develop new skills whilst having fun and also gets families to spend quality time together.”
“I would encourage parents to take full advantage of this free service during the last few weeks of the summer holidays”.
