Neath Port Talbot schools secure best ever GCSE results

Neath Port Talbot schools have secured their best ever performances at GCSE. Provisional data shows that the percentage of students achieving the ‘gold star’ benchmark of five GCSEs including English / Welsh and mathematics has improved by 2% to 58%. This is the authority’s best ever performance. The percentage of students achieving 5 A*-C grades has increased to 90%.

 Over 15% of students achieved the top A* and A grades and 69% of students achieved A*-C grades in either English or Welsh first language, an increase of 4%. The percentage of pupils entitled to free school meals achieving the gold star benchmark of Level 2+ has increased by 4%, to 33%.

Council Leader, Cllr Ali Thomas, said, “I am very proud of our young people in Neath Port Talbot and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported them to achieve such impressive results. Their parents, schools and communities must also take great pride in their achievements. I would like to wish them well in their future studies or chosen careers.”

Councillor Peter Rees, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, School Improvement and Lifelong Learning said, “It gives me great pleasure to congratulate all pupils on their success and also to pay tribute to all those who have supported them in achieving such remarkable, but highly deserved, results ”.
