Winger Tom Williams bagged himself a brace of tries in Scarlets 20-29 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday evening as the West Wales region got a result on the road for the second weekend on the bounce.

The former Wales 7s winger was one of three try scorers on Friday evening as the Scarlets secured victory at Rodney Parade after a second half comeback.

Speaking after the regional victory Williams said: “It’s really nice to come into the club and get my name on the scoreboard early. We’re really happy with the way we went as a team second half. We were slow to get going in the first half but we were really happy with result in the end.”

Williams has joined Scarlets on a season long loan from Cardiff Blues and has had spells with Wales 7s.

“I’m really enjoying down there. I’m learning a lot off the coaches and the boys.”

As well as injuries to back-three players Harry Robinson, Williams’ former teammate at the Blues, and Jordan Williams Scarlets are also without Liam Williams who is on international duty.

Williams went on to say; “Harry and Jordan are both quality players, when they come in they’re going to add to the squad massively, now they’re out we have to take our chances and try and stake a claim in the team.

“We’re missing the likes of Liam and Scott with Welsh team, competition is massive, that’s healthy. That’s what we love and become better players.”

Scarlets take on Bedford Blues at Llandovery’s Church Bank on Saturday 29thAugust, kick off 2.30pm, before the Guinness PRO12 campaign opener against Glasgow at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday 5th September.

Williams went on to say: “As a team we’re going to gain a lot [from Dragons friendly]. We’re playing together and gelling before a big couple of weeks ahead of Glasgow. It’s important to come together and get used to new partnerships.

“If I’m selected for the last pre-season friendly I’ll look forward to it and make the most of the opportunity. Everyone has one eye on Glasgow and selection for that.”
