Prince’s Trust employment course for young people looking to build on construction skills

Youth charity The Prince’s Trust Cymru has teamed up with Ammanford College and The Co-operative Foundation to help unemployed young people from Carmarthenshire find work in the Construction industry.

Young people, aged between 18 and 25, will take part in a free course called ‘Truth about Youth – Building Confidence?’, which aims to challenge negative perceptions of young people and help them gain the skills and confidence to find work.

During the three week programme, participants will gain a Level 1 in Construction skills, CSCS card, employability skills and practical construction experience as well as organising a community project. The young people will also spend time meeting with prospective employers. The community project will involve renovation of The Prince’s Trust log cabin in Pembrey Country Park, which is used to support Prince’s Trust programmes and local community groups.

Mark Joseph, Programme Executive at The Prince’s Trust, said: “This project gives young people the chance to prove that they have a huge amount to offer employers as well as their local community. Young people are often portrayed negatively but Truth about Youth helps to break down barriers, and prove that most young people want to help others, and want to get into work.”
