COUNCIL recycling officers have been spreading the recycling message to shoppers in Carmarthen.
They were in Guildhall Square to raise awareness on what can be recycled and to give information and advice to residents.
Residents are being encouraged to recycle at least one more thing from around the home. Most people regularly recycle items from the kitchen such as plastic milk bottles and glass jars, but it’s just as easy to recycle many other items from the bathroom, living room and even the bedroom.
Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “What’s currently recycled makes a huge difference, so just imagine what else could be achieved by recycling those items that are sometimes forgotten.
“We want people to think a little further than the kitchen and recycle items from other rooms in the home such as empty aerosol cans, plastic coat hangers, toilet roll tubes, toothpaste boxes, shampoo/shower gel bottles, bottle tops, receipts and envelopes.”
Figures show that approximately 60% of rubbish in Carmarthenshire is being recycled, but with a target of 70% to reach by 2024/25, there is still a long way to go.
