Carmarthenshire libraries have received their winning prize of £1,000 worth of books.

It comes after the county’s service was recognised for its best displays of large print books in a national competition.

The books which are now available to loan are in addition to a wide range of free services the libraries provide.

Whether it is fiction, non-fiction, comics, graphic novels and talking books, homework help – online and in the library, e-books and e-magazines, computer use and internet access there’s something for the whole family.

Some of the libraries play host to a family history service, Actif Storytime and toddlebikes sessions, audio visual items, CDs, DVDs, MP3 spoken word books, as well as  clubs, games, events, activities and classes with staff always on hand to help out.

Last year there were nearly 95,000 active library members. In Carmarthenshire – 2, 288 were children aged 0-4, nearly 1,000 aged 4-12 and 7,647 aged 12-18.

The council’s libraries manager, Mark Jewell said: “We’re thrilled to receive these books which enhance our collection and provide the public with an even bigger choice of books.”
