The Scarlets has announced their squad to compete in the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final at Twickenham Stoop on Friday 28th August, kick-off 6pm.
Carmarthen Quins, and former Wales 7s, winger Iolo Evans has been named captain with scrum half Connor Lloyd, who captained the squad at the Welsh leg of the series, unavailable for the final of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final due to Scarlets commitments at Llandovery on Saturday.
Lloyd is amongst six changes to the squad that secured qualification at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park a fortnight ago.
sLlandovery RFC players Matthew Jacobs, Rhodri Jones and Aaron Evans have been called upon as well as Llanelli RFC scrum half Justin James, Glamorgan Wanderers’ Jake Conway as well as Scarlets’ Matthew Owen.
London born and bred Owen was a standout rugby league player who signed for London Broncos aged 15 and captained Wales Rugby League. In August 2014 Owen moved to Wales having received a scholarship to study at Llandovery College. Owen represented Scarlets Under 18s whilst also playing for Llandovery College in the WRU Colleges league, was inducted into the Scarlets Academy before being handed a regional development contract for 2015-16.
Scarlets 7s coach Dai Flanagan said: “Firstly I’d like to thank the clubs who have made players available for Friday’s series final. It is a fantastic opportunity for the young players to get experience and play to a big crowd.
“It is also a great opportunity for them to pull on the regional shirt and represent the Scarlets on a national stage.
“We’re very much looking forward to the series final and will be looking to be as competitive as we can in what is expected to be a thrilling final.”
