SWANSEA Council has extended the deadline for people to enter the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k.

The deadline has now been moved back to Monday September 7 to give anyone who hasn’t yet entered more time to do so.

The race, which is being sponsored by Admiral for the ninth consecutive year, is taking place along Swansea Bay on Sunday September 20. About 4,500 people are expected to take part this year.

Luke Zasikowski, a seasoned runner who works for Admiral as an insurance consultant, is among those tackling the event for the first time.

He said: “Lots of people have told me that it’s a fantastic event, and having already run in the Admiral sponsored Newport half marathon, I wanted to sample the atmosphere in Swansea.

“Running has definitely made me a lot stronger – I sleep better and catch fewer seasonal illnesses. I also suffer from anxiety and depression, but since I started training and improving my health and fitness, it has become a lot more level, which has been brilliant.”

Some of Luke’s running tips include getting fitted by specialists for running shoes and completing 10% of your training barefoot on grass to help your technique. He also stresses the importance of being well-hydrated and says it’s vital not to eat within an hour of a run. Enjoying the run and not concentrating too much on pace and times are other important factors for many people, Luke says.

Each Admiral Swansea Bay 10k finisher will receive a medal and, for the first time, each entrant will get a technical t-shirt.
