On Merchant Navy Day on Thursday, (3rd September), Pembrokeshire County Council will fly the Red Ensign outside County Hall, Haverfordwest, to raise awareness of the UK’s ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers
The officially recognised flag of the Merchant Navy and affectionately known as the ‘Red Duster’, it will be raised by Council Chairman, Councillor Wynne Evans accompanied by Council Leader, Councillor Jamie Adams.
Councillor Evans explained: “The Council is supporting a nationwide call from the Seafarers UK charity and the Merchant Navy Association for the UK Merchant Navy’s official flag to be flown on public buildings.
“It is particularly appropriate given Pembrokeshire’s maritime connections.”
Councillor Evans will also read a message of support from the charity’s president, HRH The Earl of Wessex who has endorsed the campaign.
