BUDDING young entrepreneurs are being encouraged to take part in a live webcast with a global business icon.
Sir Terry Matthews, the owner of Newport’s Celtic Manor resort and Chairman of the Swansea Bay City Region board, wants to talk with Swansea comprehensive and sixth form college pupils who have an interest in business.
The live webcast will take place on the morning of Thursday September 10. In particular, Sir Terry would like to hear what Swansea young people’s big ideas are for businesses of the future.
The call comes in the wake of an innovation summit held at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium this summer where an ‘Inspiring People and Places’ brand was unveiled for the Swansea Bay City Region.
Sir Terry was also at Morriston Comprehensive School in July to officially open the building following a £22 million rebuild project.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Schoolchildren across the City Region as a whole will no doubt have some fantastic business ideas. The technology boom of the last 15 years or so has seen hugely talented young people develop ventures like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram that have gone on to take the world by storm.
“From William Grove, the inventor of the fuel cell, right through to Sir Terry himself, Swansea has a proud history of nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship and business talent. The live webcast will allow the city’s pupils with a passion for business the chance to share their ideas with Sir Terry and get world class feedback. I’d urge any teachers or pupils who’d like to take part in the webcast to get in touch because it’s a terrific opportunity to talk to a hugely successful global business icon who’s been there and done it.”
Any school or sixth form college that would like to take part should email Huw Parsons on h.l.parsons@carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call him on 07733 102318.
