SPECTATORS are being encouraged to head for the promenade on the weekend to cheer on the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k participants.
About 4,500 people are expected to take part in the main event between St Helen’s and Mumbles this Sunday (September 20).
As well as the 10k, there’ll also be 5k, 3k and 1k races for juniors. Other fun includes a 100-metre mascot dash outside St Helen’s that starts about 10 minutes after the main race.
The Admiral Group is the event’s title sponsor. Over 150 of their staff have entered the main race this year, which starts at 1pm.
Ceri Assiratti, Head of People Services at the Admiral Group, said “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k race and fun runs again this year. Supporting events in our local community is very much a part of Admiral, so it’s great to be involved in an event like this that grows in popularity year on year.
“The number of our employees who have entered the 2015 race really highlights its importance to our staff and the local area. I’d like to take this opportunity, on behalf of everyone at Admiral, to wish all the runners the very best of luck.”
Swansea Council organises the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k. Entries for all the races have now closed. Organisers won’t be taking any entries for any of the races on the day.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k is a fantastic event – both for participants and spectators. It always generates a terrific atmosphere, so I’d urge as many people as possible to head for the promenade between Mumbles and St Helen’s on Sunday afternoon to cheer on the runners. People’s support and encouragement makes all the difference to participants, whether they’re looking to conquer their personal bests or simply finish the run to raise money for charity.”
