With the Rugby World Cup finally here, The First Minister, Carwyn Jones has today wished the Welsh team good luck in their pursuit of the Webb Ellis Cup whilst highlighting the off the field benefits that part hosting such a major event brings to Wales.
The First Minister said:
“With nations from all corners of the world competing on our doorstep and an ever increasing global audience, it’s a fantastic opportunity to once again showcase what Wales has to offer, both on and off the rugby field.
“Rugby is a significant part of our country’s culture and history and the excitement heading into this World Cup is palpable. It’s another chance to get behind the team but also for hotels, restaurants, bars, tourist attractions and sports clubs across Wales to benefit from the thousands of visitors coming to join in the celebrations.
“We’ve shown on countless occasions that we are a world class host of major events and the Rugby World Cup will be no exception. Earlier this week we welcomed Uruguay to Wales and to the World Cup and on Wednesday I officially opened a fantastic Rugby World Cup exhibition at the National Museum – which I’d encourage all rugby fans to visit, free of charge.
“There will also be a designated fan zone for those not lucky enough to get stadium tickets, with further events across the country, coupled with the famous welsh hospitality, ensuring that this great sporting occasion is enjoyed by all.
“Good luck Wales and let’s hope for a handsome early win to set the tone for the tournament.”
