Dyfed Powys Police is supporting a national campaign focusing on the issue of rape and consent.
The #ConsentIs campaign was launched on Monday, September 21 and is led by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with support from the National Police Council, Rape Crisis, NUS, End Violence Against Women Coalition and White Ribbon UK.
The campaign has been launched in time for Freshers’ Week and aims to encourage younger audiences to explore the main issues around consent and rape.
People are urged to get involved in the Twitter conversation by tweeting #ConsentIs or #ConsentIs Not and then filling in the rest of the sentence with their own answer.
Dyfed Powys Police’s Chief Superintendents Pam Kelly and Simon Powell have contributed to the social media campaign with ‘#ConsentIs…an absolute YES’.
Chief Superintendent Pam Kelly said: “It is so important for Dyfed Powys Police to get involved in this empowering campaign. Consent to me means making sure there is an absolute yes before anything happens between a couple. It also means someone has the right to change their mind if they feel uncomfortable with a situation as it progresses.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Powell said: “It really is quite simple – sex without consent is rape. We want to ensure that victims of this dreadful crime know that help, support and advice is available and that the police, whilst working with other agencies will take positive action.”
If you are the victim of a rape or sexual assault please come forward and tell police. Ring 999 in an emergency.
