A Llanelli business has been fined £100 after its bins were found to be overflowing with rubbish and no action was taken to resolve it.
The business was first issued with a waste receptacles notice by council environmental enforcement officers.
However, it failed to comply with the notice and was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice as a result.
All businesses must have an agreement in place with a fully licensed waste company to make sure that any waste produced during the course of their business, is stored, transported and disposed of without harming the environment; known as their ‘Duty of Care.’
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “The business in question was given 21 days to resolve the issue; however it failed to do so and was fined as a result.
“Rubbish escaping from bins can cause litter problems which we as a local authority have to clean up; and can attract vermin.
“The majority of businesses in Carmarthenshire are compliant with the legislation but we will not hesitate to take action against those who are not.”
