Over twenty teams from high-profile business and big-name rugby competed in one of West Wales’ most eagerly awaited annual sports challenges on Wednesday 23rd September.

Competitors from business enterprises such contractors WRW and TAD Builders, SWW Media and Western Telegraph, regional sponsors Valero, CK Supermarkets and Dyfed Steels were amongst those that did battle on the golf course at Machynys Peninsula Golf and Country Club.

The Scarlets Golf Day, in association with Mercedes-Benz of Swansea, also welcomed special guest Julian Lewis Jones who joined Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac’s team.

The day’s winners were Dyfed Steels with Brian Beynon’s side a close second. Sponsors Mercedes-Benz of Swansea took the third place with CK Supermarket and Cardiff Airport, captained by Scarlets Chief Executive Darran Phillips, tied in fourth place.

Scarlets Commercial Manager Rhys Thomas said: “It was a tremendous day, despite the changeable weather. The Scarlets annual Golf Day has always been a great way of bringing together business and sport.

“We had over 20 teams on the course at Machynys which was excellent. It’s one of the most popular non-matchday events of our calendar. I’d like to thank all the businesses who gave up their time to participate and a big thank you to event sponsor Mercedes-Benz of Swansea for their support.”

As well as the battle for the lowest scores, there were competitions for the longest drive and nearest pin.

Scarlets back row Aaron Shingler had a successful day on the green winning the longest drive contest and getting the nearest pin on hole 11.  Doreen Davies won the longest drive ladies.

Delwyn Jones, of TAD Builders, secured the nearest pin on hole 2, Dan Evans, of WRW, the nearest pin on hole 7 and Nick Parry, SWW Media, the nearest pin on hole 11.

The day concluded in the golf club’s Nicklaus Suite with a superb two-course dinner and presentation ceremony. The evening was hosted by former world squash star Adrian Davies. A raffle raised £300 for the Ray Gravell & Friends Trust.
