Neighbourhood Officers in Dyfed Powys are taking to the road and will be in a community near you very soon in their new mobile police station.

As part of their commitment to getting out and about and being more accessible local police teams in each county have taken delivery of a brand new mobile police station. It is bright, visible and is fitted out with satellite technology that means the team can work from the station where ever they are. As the final touches to the timetable are being agreed local teams are asking for your help to find a suitable name for each vehicle.

Project lead Superintendent Chris Curtis said, “We are excited by the four new vehicles and know that they will make a big difference to our officers who want to get out into our rural communities. We want people living in our communities to know that we have them and when they will be in their areas. We hope that asking people to come up with a name will encourage people involved and go and see the new station.”

“We want to ensure that people can get in touch with a member of their local police team where ever they live in Dyfed Powys. We know this isn’t always easy especially if you live in our more rural villages. Each county has a mobile police station that will have a timetable of visits to places where people go and get together, e.g., at the local mart, market day or events and meetings. The stations will be parked up, their doors opened and the team will be on hand to speak to people about issues that concern them, get the latest crime prevention advice or report crimes and incidents in confidence. The stations are linked to the force IT systems so the police teams can carry out their duties as they could whilst at a desk in a police station.

Supt Curtis added, “The local teams asked pupils from one of the schools in their area to come up with a few ideas on what we could call the vehicles. We will then put the names out on the force and local teams twitter accounts, as well as the force website for people to vote for their favourite. The winning names will be painted on the side of each vehicle.”

The new vehicles will be in each county in the next week or so. The names will be available for voting from September 30th to October 12th. The name with the most votes will be chosen and put onto the side of vehicle by the end of October.
