Businesses in Ceredigion that produce any kind of waste are being warned to deal with it appropriately and legally.
They are being reminded that all waste produce must be taken or carried by a registered waste carrier.
Businesses have a duty to be aware of the correct, licensed disposal or recycling site and authorised to take their waste.
Waste transfer notes should be received from the waste carrier for all movement of waste taken from the business premises and these must be kept for two years.
Detective Constable Jo Grey, seconded to Natural Resources Wales Environmental Crime Team, said: “All businesses that produce any form of waste – may that be food waste, cardboard, plastic, metal etc. – are reminded they have a duty of care within environmental law to ensure their waste is disposed of correctly. Those who do not dispose of their waste correctly could face prosecution.”
Police, along with partner agencies, regularly conduct operations targeting the waste carriers and illegal waste sites and urge businesses to consider this guidance when disposing or recycling their waste.
If you are unsure who is carrying your waste or where it is going, you can check with Natural Resources Wales for registered waste carriers in your area, and licensed sites, by calling 03000 65 3000 or by visiting their website www.naturalresourceswales.gov.uk.
