Morris Travel has secured a new five year contract for services from Carmarthen to Cardigan and Llandovery, as well as other services in the Carmarthen area.
In the last few weeks they have introduced additional evening journeys at 7.15pm from Carmarthen to Newcastle Emlyn via Cynwyl Elfed, Saron, Henllan and Drefach, and at 8.05pm from Newcastle Emlyn to Carmarthen via Saron and Cynwyl Elfed.
The operator has been running these services for the last five years. Carmarthenshire County Council is legally obliged to re-tender these services periodically.
Morris Travel, in securing the future contract, offered some enhancements to the services as part of the tender submission.
The company is also updating the vehicles used on these routes. As well as refurbishing the buses, they are adding free Wi-Fi and mobile charging points to make the journeys more attractive.
Chris Freeman of Morris Travel said: “We are very happy to have secured these contracts and look forward to providing the same high level of service to our customers.
“We have introduced extra journeys on the 460 route in response to requests from passengers and hope that they will support these extra journeys to make sure that their operation can be justified. We also hope that our passengers enjoy the improvements we are making to our vehicles.”
Environment and transport executive board member Cllr Hazel Evans said: “It is tremendous news that these services will continue to benefit passengers and communities by not only being secured, but enhanced and improved secured for a further five years.
“Service 460 in particular has seen considerable growth in usage, linked closely to the Bwcabus service, and we urge those that haven’t yet used this network of services to give them a try.”
