The Mynydd y Betws Community Benefit Fund continues to support local causes throughout the Amman Valley.

The Grant Panel recently awarded 11 organisations a total of £120,437 for various community projects across the 10 eligible wards. They are Ammanford, Garnant, Llandybie, Penygroes, Tycroes, Betws, Glanamman, Pontamman, Saron, and Cwarter Bach.

The award will enable Betws RFC to install a lift so that their facilities, already used widely by the community will ensure access to all for further meetings and events.

The Twrch Trwyth Festival, organised by Ammanford Enterprise Partnership received funding that will ensure continual growth and sustainability, whilst Ysgol Tycroes will be embarking on an Adventure and Nature Environment Project.  This outdoor nature learning project will give opportunities for the whole community to access and will raise awareness of local sustainability and environmental issues.

Funding for Ystradowen Community Centre will support them to develop services and activities such as a community café, educational talk’s programmes, youth activities and a befriending service.

Funding for the Black Mountain Community Centre in Brynamman will allow for refurbishment work and for the installation of solar panels.

The Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund was launched in April 2013, after Carmarthenshire County Council entered into an agreement with ESB (Electricity Supply Board) to administer the £2.7 million Community Benefit Fund over 25 years. The benefit fund supports local projects and initiatives that create vibrant and sustainable communities, drawing in additional external funding and addressing local need.

Fund Chairman Cllr Glynog Davies said: “We are pleased to continue this support for a variety of community projects. At a difficult time for public finances many of these societies would find it hard but for the grants available from the Community Benefit Fund.”

Applications for the next round will be available from April 1st 2016 for community led projects which address the following themes of Recreation, Education, Energy Efficiency, Culture, Health and Environment.
