An 80th minute penalty for Steven Shingler, at Parc y Scarlets on Friday night, saw Scarlets snatch a dramatic victory from Munster returning to the top of the Guinness PRO12 table.
Munster opened the scoring after five minutes with a penalty for late replacement outside half Ian Keatley and the Irish province remained in the lead throughout until Shingler’s last minute penalty.
Speaking after the game Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac said he was pleased to see his side secure the victory despite an error-strewn performance.
“It’s a feeling of relief, to snatch that victory. We’re very pleased to get the points obviously. It was satisfying to hang in there, weather the storm and claw our way back.
“We were probably our own worst enemy really. There were too many errors in the conditions and went behind on the scoreboard in the first half. We started the second half strongly and I’m very pleased how we came back.”
Scarlets’ 25-22 victory was the region’s fifth consecutive win in the 2015-16 Guinness PRO12 campaign and a record ninth consecutive win overall.
A lackluster first half by the Scarlets saw them trail 6-13 at the break but a brace of second half tries kept the region in the game.
Pivac went on to say: “The guys were lacking a bit of energy so we’ll go back and have a look at all of that, the preparation as well as the game.
“It’s a win. It’s a strange feeling really. We felt that they played well; let’s not take that away from them. We weren’t on our game. We’re pleased to have got out of it.
“It was a nerveless kick from Steve. It’s nice to have guys that can kick from that distance and I’m very pleased for him. It certainly was a pressure kick and wasn’t an easy one.”
Scarlets return to the Parc on Friday evening for the first Welsh derby of the season as they take on Newport Gwent Dragons, kick off 6pm.
