Work has started on creating an Economy Hub at Fishguard Library.
The new Life Hub: Work & Money Skills initiative aims to help people grow by reducing barriers to work and improve skills development in North Pembrokeshire.
Once completed it will provide space and resources where people can get advice and information on financial matters such as job seeking, careers and business start ups – as well as welfare and debt advice.
The hub is being developed by the County Council together with Job Centre Plus and follows a £40,000 grant from the Welsh Government.
Due to open early next year, it is supported by organisations such as the Pembrokeshire Business Initiative (PBI), Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS) and Pembrokeshire College.
Councillor Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture said it was an exciting initiative, which would help young and old across a wide range of economic and financial issues.
“This new life hub is part of our commitment to combat poverty,” he said.
“The aim is to work with a range of partners to ensure that a regular programme of support activities, events and training opportunities are available from the hub to benefit local people.”
The new hub will be equipped with a laptop and printer for use during private discussions, while the grant will also fund an extra three public computers for the library.
Further features include a Local Interest area, staff desk and a digital projector and screen to aid larger group workshops, presentations or group activities.
*Due to essential work being done in preparation for the Economy Hub, Fishguard Library and the Last Invasion Tapestry will be closed to the public on Saturday, 7th November. They will open as normal from Monday 9th November.
