Rugby occasions don’t get much bigger than stepping up for the last kick of the game to secure a victory.

Scarlets outside half Steve Shingler did just that last Friday night securing a 25-22 win for the Scarlets, over then league leaders Munster, but the 24-year-old is expecting just as big an occasion this Friday.

Scarlets take on Newport Gwent Dragons in the third consecutive Friday night fixture at the Parc in as many weeks with the West Wales region looking for their sixth victory in the 2015-16 Guinness PRO12 campaign.

Shingler says a strong team ethos is one of the contributing factors to Scarlets’ strong start to the campaign, he said; “Everyone’s on the same page. A couple of boys mentioned the word selflessness and you have people like Regan in the squad who prefers to put people in space than take that space himself.

“Everyone is trying to achieve the same goal, which is ultimately winning, but also doing the small things right.

“We’re definitely driving standards and we’re judging ourselves against ourselves and not concentrating too much on anyone else.”

Friday’s clash is the first Welsh derby of the season before the festive derbies get underway over Christmas and New Year.

Shingler went on to say: “Dragons are a very good defensive team and coached well. We’ll be making sure we do the basics right and delivering a performance.

“We probably underperformed as an attacking side against Munster and we need to work on that on Friday. It’s going to be a big test and a big occasion.”

Scarlets welcome Dragons to the Parc on Friday, 30th October kick-off 6pm. Tickets are on sale now from tickets.scarlets.co.uk or by calling 0871 871 8088 (9am-7pm Wednesday & Thursday, 9am-half time Friday).
