SWANSEA Council is warning residents and visitors about a fake Waterfront Winterland page on Facebook.

he unofficial page, called Swansea Waterfront Winterland, has been using the council’s logo and cover image from last year’s event without permission.

The page has also been a running a bogus competition where a prize of 20 ride tokens in return for likes, comments and shares has been advertised. The person behind the page also contacted the lady who ‘won’ the competition to ask her whether she wanted to receive her prize by post or collect it in person from a ‘booth’.

The official Swansea Council page on Facebook, which includes details about Waterfront Winterland and other Swansea Christmas attractions, is called ‘Swansea Christmas’.

A Swansea Council spokesperson said: “The ‘Swansea Waterfront Winterland’ page is bogus, so we’d urge members of the public to pay no attention to it whatsoever.

“We’re unclear about the motivation behind the setting up of bogus page, so we contacted Facebook and sought legal advice as soon as we found out about its existence.

“Anyone who wants information about Waterfront Winterland or other Christmas events and activities in Swansea should visit our official ‘Swansea Christmas’ Facebook page or our official Swansea Christmas website.”

The official council website and Facebook page are available at www.swanseachristmas.com and www.facebook.com/SwanseaChristmas
