Work has begun on the final section of the A486 Ceredigion Link Road Improvement project.

In 2012 the first phase of the Post Bach to Synod Inn section involved improvements to the road between Post Bach and the property known as Llain.

This year, Ceredigion County Council has been fortunate to receive funding from the Welsh Government’s Local Transport Fund to complete the improvements up to Synod Inn.

Transport Minister Edwina Hart said: “As a pro-business government we recognise the importance of this scheme to the local economy which is why we are investing in this latest stage. It is a key economic development project for Ceredigion and will further improve links between the west Wales coast and the A40/M4 corridor, which is also a key aspiration of the Teifi Valley Growth Zone Implementation Plan.”

Works began on site on 21 October 2015 and should last until the Autumn of next year.  Road users are advised that there may be travel disruption during this time, and a temporary 30mph speed limit will be in force during construction to protect the workforce.

Cabinet Member for Transport, Councillor Alun Williams said: “As well as reducing local journey times, this work will further contribute to the ongoing strategic project of better linking North and South Wales on the Western side and thereby strengthening the rural economy.”

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd have been appointed to construct this section of the works which have been designed by Capita.

James Allard, Business Director, Capita’s property and infrastructure business said: “We are delighted to have helped the Council reach the final phase of realising its ambitions to enhance links between Ceredigion and the M4 corridor and make the A486 Ceredigion Link Road a safer stretch of road with better visibility that is connected by a footway. The local rural economy, road users and pedestrians will reap the rewards of the investment and programme of improvements.”

The Council’s Corporate Strategy 2013-2017 included a commitment to complete these network improvements.  This long-term investment in our strategic infrastructure plays an important part in helping to support our communities with better access to services for our local people, businesses and visitors.

Ceredigion County Council would like to thank the following organisations for their support with this project: Welsh Government, Capita and Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd.
