Swansea drugs gang jailed

A drugs gang involved in the import and supply of heroin and cocaine in Swansea has been sentenced to prison.

Mohammed Ahmed, aged 30, of Buckinghamshire, and Mahad Hassan, 23, of Harrow, were found guilty of conspiring to supply class A drugs.

Jamie Lee Knox, 23, from Swansea, Aways Osman, 23, from London and Hussain Sabriye, 25, from London, all admitted conspiracy to supply charges.

Caroline Walton, 26, from Swansea, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Appearing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, Ahmed and Hassan were sentenced to six years in prison, Sabriye to five years, Osman to four years, while Knox received a three-year sentence. Walton was sentenced to nine months, suspended for 18 months.

They were all arrested during an operation to tackle the supply of drugs in Swansea in May this year when officers executed numerous warrants which led them to the Dragon Hotel in the city centre.

Almost 200 wraps of heroin in £20 and £30 deals were discovered hidden in the ceiling of one of the rooms which had booked out.

A further 111 wraps of crack cocaine in £30 deals were also discovered along with cash.

The defendant Hassan claimed that he was in Swansea as a tourist and denied he had anything to do with the supply of drugs.

Constable Jon Davies of Swansea Central Police Station said:

“This was a substantial amount of heroin and crack cocaine which was destined for the streets of Swansea.

“We are committed to tackle the importation and supply of class A drugs in Swansea as we see the misery it causes – not only to drug users but also to their friends and family and the wider community.

“If you suspect that someone is involved in the production or supply of drugs or any other form of criminal activity, then call us – action will be taken.”
