More than eighty delegates from Wales fly out to Dusseldorf this weekend on a Welsh Government trade mission to showcase a range of innovative award winning products and services at Medica – the world’s leading medical trade fair.

Medica is one of the top global  events for the life sciences sector in Wales and this year forty two companies are attending – the largest number to date – with nineteen exhibiting and twenty three visiting.

Last year participating companies won contracts worth more than £1.4m within months of attending, with more deals in the pipeline.

Medica (Monday 16th to Thursday 19th November)  attracts around 130,000 trade visitors from over 120 countries and Welsh businesses attending will use the forum to launch new products, appoint international distributers, explore licencing opportunities, meet clients and raise their profile and promote their products to a global market.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“Medica is without doubt a key trade event for Welsh companies and offers a great opportunity to promote the extensive range of expertise we have within Wales to an international audience.

“Our support  reflects the Welsh Government’s commitment to the Life Sciences sector in Wales which employs over 11,000 people in around 350 companies and is growing rapidly.”

The four day international trade fair and congress has a focus on a number of distinct areas ranging from electro-medicine to laboratory equipment and diagnostics  and from physiotherapy and orthopaedic technology to medical services.

The Welsh Government is sponsoring the Wales pavilion in the Diagnostics Hall and the International Hall where a reception will be held for Welsh companies and their clients featuring Welsh foods and refreshments.

Amongst the exhibitors are GX from Usk – specialists in the design and development of diagnostic, scientific, medical instrumentation and devices –  who won new business worth £147,000 from customers based in America and Ireland after last year’s event and also developed new leads with two Welsh companies.

Business development manager Claire Banks said:

“It provides us with the perfect place and opportunity to display products that highlight our extensive skills to design medical and scientific products for the life science sector among others.”

CellPath Ltd, which is based in Newtown, returns to Medica for the 14th year running after winning seven new contracts with customers in Belgium, Denmark, Israel, France, Germany, Finland and Chile last year.

The company specialises in the manufacturing and world-wide supply of products, consumables and services for the histopathology and cytology market.
