Dyfed Powys Police is urging homeowners and landlords not to let the darker nights create opportunities for burglaries to be committed.
Officers are encouraging people to protect their properties from crime during the winter months by carrying out certain security measures.
Cutting back hedges to make sure there is good visibility around the property and having adequate outside lighting are two top tips on offer.
PC Dave White said: “Dyfed Powys police has one of the lowest burglary rates in the country and police will do our best to keep it that way, but the public also has an important role to play in preventing a crime from happening. Make life difficult for criminals and remove the opportunities that are around your home for crimes to be committed.
“Motion-activated (or PIR) security lights are a must have. They are proven to deter burglars and are also useful for lighting up drives and dark areas preventing any falls. For more security advice please get in touch by calling 101.”
