A prime site in Burry Port will be put on the market next week as a housing development opportunity.
The site of the former Burry Port Junior School will be advertised for sale next Wednesday (November 25).
The site has become available with the opening of the new £3.8million Burry Port Community Primary School as part of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Modernising Education Programme which is a multi million pound investment in school buildings.
The council’s forward planning team has drawn up a planning brief for possible development opportunities and the team has met Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council to discuss the brief.
The former junior school is set within 1.91 acres of land suitable for residential development in the centre of Burry Port and close to the Burry Port Harbour / marina and the Millennium Coast Park.
There are currently four main school buildings within the curtilage. However, none are listed, offering various redevelopment options for conversion or new build.
The sale is freehold and tenders will be invited by the middle of January.
Executive board member for resources Cllr David Jenkins said: “The money gained from the sale will go towards funding our Modernising Education Programme and the redevelopment of the site will create much needed high-quality housing for the Burry Port area.”
