Llanelli police have launched a campaign against violence and drink driving over the Christmas period.
The campaign starts this Friday (November 20) when the police take their new all-purpose mobile police station called NINO to Llanelli Carnival as part of a roadshow campaign featuring the Paul’s Pledge campaign against alcohol related violence. The Paul’s Pledge video will be shown on a large screen inside the van.
The main campaign will run from December 1 to December 31 and will also cover drink driving. Police will be breathalysing drivers in the morning to make them aware of the impact they can have on road safety and the safety of other road users.
The campaign will also feature a passive drugs dog initiative which will be utilised in and around the Llanelli area to target drug related offences.
Sergeant Darren Morgan of the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The festive period generally is one of the busiest times of the year for Dyfed Powys Police with increased alcohol consumption.
“There’s a correlated increase in alcohol-related violent crime, drugs crime and drink and drug driving offences. We aim to ensure an effective response and targeting of violent incidents along with fully supporting the National Christmas drink drive campaign.”
Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member and Chair of the Community Safety Partnership Cllr Pam Palmer said: “The partners in Carmarthenshire CSP are working together to tackle violent crime and drink driving.”
