Ceredigion Young Carers Service has been re-launched.  The new provider, charity Action for Children, will be working closely with Ceredigion County Council to support young carers who live in Ceredigion.

The Young Carers Service provides practical and emotional support to ensure young carers enjoy and achieve just like their peers. The service supports 62 young people throughout Ceredigion who provide unpaid care to a member of their family.

Action for Children staff work closely with schools, social services and GPs to identify those young people in need of help and support. Emotional and practical support is offered to help young people come to terms with a parent or guardian’s illness, and to also help a young person build positive relationships outside their family, helping to reduce the level of responsibility on that young person.

Councillor Catherine Hughes, Cabinet Member for Care, Assurance and Housing, said: “I was humbled to be at the launch and to hear the stories and journeys these young people have been on. They are an inspirational group of people who are doing so well to juggle different challenges that some adults would not be able to manage.”

Young Carers1Sandra White from Action for Children said: “We want to make sure that every child has the love, support and opportunity they need to reach their full potential, and make family life better. We are looking forward to making a difference for young people in Ceredigion and to work closely with the Council for the foreseeable future.”

Ceredigion County Council Young Carers Service was officially re-launched in an event on Wednesday 11 November in Penmorfa in Aberaeron.
