Santa’s grotto, personalised decorations and carvery rolls are among the features of a Christmas Market that’s soon starting in Swansea city centre.

The market, made up of more than 40 green and red wooden chalets, will be available on Oxford Street from Wednesday November 25 to Tuesday December 22.

Swansea Council is behind the attraction. The grotto, which will be located on Oxford Street’s junction with Princess Way, will combine with other attractions including a Christmas bar, a Christmas confectionary chalet and a German grill.

The market will be open from 9.30am to 5.30pm from Mondays to Saturdays and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays.

Entertainment is taking place on Saturdays from organisations including the Groundswell Dance Company, Samba Tawe and the Makers of Dance Energy. Local school choirs will be providing music on weekdays.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The Christmas Market on Oxford Street is always popular because of the festive atmosphere and extra vibrancy it generates in the city centre. It’s a key part of the festive build-up in the city centre that combines with Swansea Market and our mix of leading high street names and independent traders to give residents and visitors lots of choice.

“Together with the return of Waterfront Winterland to Museum Park and the variety of other Christmas concerts and events planned for venues such as the Brangwyn Hall, the Christmas Market will help boost people’s spirits at a time of year that’s cherished by many thousands of local families.

“Events like the Christmas Market also attract more shoppers into the city centre, which helps encourage more spending in our shops, restaurants, pubs and other businesses.”

Other products being made available at the Christmas Market include Christmas lighting, Christmas baubles and stained glass arts and gifts. Other foods will include hot roasted nuts, freshly-made fudge, camel burgers, artisan cheese, a chocolate fountain and local specialities like seaweed gin. Local view photography, Christmas cards, mulled wine, jewellery, ornaments and holly wreaths will also be available.

Waterfront Winterland, featuring the Admiral ice rink, the big wheel and lots of other fun, will be open at Museum Park until Sunday January 3.
