New lockers are now available in Swansea City Centre for residents and visitors to leave their luggage or shopping for temporary safekeeping.
The lockers, which are available to hire at the Shop Mobility Hire unit in the city’s Bus Station, have been introduced to coincide with the busiest shopping weeks of the year in the build-up to Christmas.
Accessible through the purchase of a refundable key, the lockers come in four different sizes to cater for people’s varying needs.
Swansea Council is behind the scheme.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The new lockers for shopping and luggage is a direct response to the many people who have requested such a facility for a number of years. We’ve also conducted research on what’s available in other towns and cities, which has informed our prices.
“Not only will the new lockers help City Centre visitors and shoppers with their unwieldy luggage and bags when they are short of hands or need a space for temporary storage, but they’ll also help us generate more income and protect the Shop Mobility unit in future at a time when we’re facing major budget cuts.
“It’s our aim to make the Shop Mobility Hire service completely self-sustaining by the 2017/2018. Together with other initiatives like the sale of mobility aids from the unit, the new locker scheme will help realise our aim. They’ll also help meet the needs of a Destination Management Plan we have in place to keep on improving the visitor experience in Swansea.”
The Shop Mobility Hire service is open from 9am to 5pm from Mondays to Saturdays. It will also be open from 10am to 4.30pm on Sunday December 13 and Sunday December 20 in the build-up to Christmas.
