Pembrokeshire Archives wins official recognition

Pembrokeshire Archives has been awarded another badge of honour.

The Pembrokeshire County Council-run service based at Prendergast, Haverfordwest has achieved official Accredited Status.

The Archive Service Accreditation provides an archive service with a mark of external recognition and official endorsement.

It follows the official seal of approval awarded to Pembrokeshire Archives earlier this year as a place of deposit under the Public Records Act.

“We’re delighted with this new accreditation,” said Councillor Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture.

“We’re very proud of our Archive service and it’s good to have it confirmed by a nationally recognised scheme,” he said.

“Accredited status is a badge of recognition which demonstrates quality of services to our customers, donors and grant-making bodies.”

Formerly located at the Castle in Haverfordwest, the state-of-the art Record Office – now known as Pembrokeshire Archives – opened on the site of the former Prendergast Junior School in March 2013.

As well as housing the County’s archive – comprising thousands of documents of diverse origin spanning the centuries – it also provides on-site facilities for members of the public and historians to undertake research.

The Archive Accreditation Scheme closely resembles the Museum Accreditation Scheme. It is supported by a partnership of Archives and Records Associations throughout the UK.
