The council has teamed up with Tesco in its fight against litter.
Environmental enforcement officers will be in the Ammanford store on Tuesday, December 1 to raise awareness and to speak to customers.
Keeping Carmarthenshire clean is a priority for the council and much work is underway to raise awareness on the consequences of dropping litter and dog fouling.
Some litter takes years to degrade, causing significant harm to wildlife and the environment. It also spoils the appearance of an area and can lead to further crime being committed. Dog mess left anywhere can also cause a health risk.
Officers will be able to give information and advice such as how to report incidents, answer questions on proposed dog control orders which are currently under consultation and will be giving out disposable ashtrays, gum wraps and poop bags.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “I am delighted that Tesco has invited officers into the store and will help educate the public on littering and dog fouling issues.
“This is a high priority for the council but we cannot clean up Carmarthenshire alone; we need the help of residents and businesses like Tesco.
“We live in a beautiful county, which is popular with visitors, and we are lucky that compared to other areas it is very clean. However, there is always room for improvement and anyone caught dropping litter or failing to clean up after their dog will be fined; there are no excuses.”
The council is currently consulting on orders to clean up after your dog on all public land in the county, to put your dog on a lead when directed to do so by an authorised officer and excluding dogs from children’s play areas.
