Scarlets’ young fullback Steff Evans got the 2015-16 campaign underway with solid performances in the opening two rounds of the Guinness PRO12.
After 13 starts in 13 appearances for the Scarlets Evans’ season came to an untimely stop after he dislocated his elbow in a freak accident at home.
Nine week on and Evans made an appearance off the replacements bench against Racing 92 last weekend.
The 21-year-old fullback, from Five Roads, has been named in the starting line-up to take on Zebre on Sunday afternoon, at Parc y Scarlets. Speaking ahead of game, Evans said: “It’s been a long nine weeks. I want to get back playing games again, get back out there and back to my old form.
“I was pretty gutted when the injury happened but I just had to keep my head up and get back as soon as I could.”
Evans was involved in the victories in the opening two rounds of the PRO12 before sitting out the next five rounds. He went on to say: “We started the season well and got six out of seven wins. Watching from sideline wasn’t best. I thought I played well in the first two games. With Liam (Williams) being out I can take over from him for now.”
Scarlets have registered three defeats in the last three games but Evans went on to say that the side is very much looking to kick on as they head back into Pro12 action. He said: “The last three weeks have been hard and two of the games we should have won. It was a bit of a blow after starting so well.
“Sunday will be a tough game but I think we have the capability to beat them. At the moment we want to just try and win as many games as we can. We have to take each game as they come. We have to get a big comfortable win and then move on to Treviso and try and do the same.”
