CHILD car seat safety checks were carried out in Carmarthenshire during national Road Safety Week.
The council’s road safety unit offer the free service to make sure the seat is suitable for the vehicle and fitted securely as well as being appropriate for the child.
The checks were carried out at Parc Myrddin in Carmarthen and officers from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s community safety unit were also there to offer further safety advice.
A properly fitted child car seat will help to prevent your child from being thrown about inside the vehicle, or ejected from it, if there is a crash or if it needs to stop immediately. It will also absorb some of the impact force, and provide some protection from objects intruding into the passenger compartment.
Executive Board Member for Transport Cllr Hazel Evans said: “The safest way for children to travel in cars is in a child car seat that is suitable for their weight and size, and is correctly fitted in the car.
“Our road safety unit offer this service all year round not just during Road Safety Week, and will demonstrate the safe fitting of your child’s car seat, in your vehicle.
“I would urge parents to get in touch and make an appointment if they are having any difficulty at all in either choosing a car seat or fitting it.”
