Llanelli town centre has benefitted from yet another successful Christmas event.

The Coca Cola truck rolled into town yesterday, heralding the start of the festive season with its illuminations, choir and faux snowfall.

Thousands of families descended on the town, despite the weather, providing a boost to local shops.

Llanelli Indoor Market traders were amongst those that opened late to make the most of the extra footfall, with Llanelli’s multi-storey car park also open late to accommodate shoppers.

Many shops and restaurants have reported extra custom.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s marketing and tourism team hosted the event and spoke to visitors to promote the council’s services – many of them coming from Swansea and further afield to have their pictures taken with the famous red truck.

The council is now preparing for the last of its three Christmas events, which is expected to draw in the crowds once again.

Father Christmas, his reindeer and dancing elves will be amongst a host of attractions on Saturday December 19 when the whole of the town centre will become involved in the celebrations.

Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader of the council, said: “This is exactly what we’re hoping to achieve – more people coming into the town centre, shops extending their trading hours to make the most of the extra footfall and enjoyable events that families can enjoy.

“We hope the last of our three Christmas events – the reindeer event that the council and Llanelli Star have saved – will be another great draw bringing in more shoppers.”
