The biggest girls-only football festival in Pembrokeshire was held last week ahead of the UEFA Welsh Women’s European qualification match against Kazakhstan in Haverfordwest.
A total of 290 girls aged between five and seven from primary schools in the Pembroke area attended the FIFA ‘Live Your Goals’ Football Festival, which was organised by Sport Pembrokeshire.
The event was held at Pembroke Leisure Centre and held in partnership with the Pembrokeshire Leisure, Swansea City Trust, FAW and Welsh Football Trust.
Wyndham Williams from Sport Pembrokeshire, said: “‘The Live Your Goals’ campaign is a fantastic opportunity to introduce more young girls to football in a community setting.
“Girls have an opportunity to enjoy the game in a safe and informal environment and we aim to create a carnival atmosphere through use of music and entertainment and make it a celebration of football.”
The festival saw girls taking part in various football activities as well as dance, t-shirt design, freestyling and much more!
While the young footballers were having fun at ‘Live Your Goals’, the Wales senior women’s international team were preparing for their UEFA Welsh Women’s European qualification match against Kazakhstan in Haverfordwest.
The FAW (Football Association Wales) kindly offered all the newly-inspired girls free entry and transport to the game.
As part of the Live Your Goals event, Pembroke Leisure centre are running Girls Only Fun Football sessions to give these girls an opportunity to continue their football journey on Wednesdays nights.
The sessions take place at Pembroke Leisure centre from 5pm to 6pm every Wednesday, and all girls are invited.
