Ceredigion Youth Council Meets for the First Time

The first meeting of Ceredigion County Council’s Youth Council was held on Tuesday 24 November in the Council Chamber in Penmorfa, Aberaeron.

​The Youth Council is made up of two young people from every secondary school, and other young people’s forums in the county, for example the Urdd Forum, Young Farmers Club, Coleg Ceredigion, Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training and Aelwyd Pantycelyn amongst others.

Elen James, Head of Youth Engagement and Continuing Education said: “The aim of the Youth Council is to be a platform, where young people can raise their concerns, share their opinions, discuss current projects, activities and events led by Ceredigion County Council and provide feedback on them.”

Elliw Dafydd the Chair of the new Youth Council said: “I am delighted to be part of this Youth Council as I feel it’s important that we are able to share our thoughts and ideas with the local Council, young people have some really great and creative ideas, the Council could learn a lot from us!”

Leader of Ceredigion County Council, Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn said: “It’s great to see young people in Ceredigion take an interest in what’s going on in the community, they are the leaders of tomorrow and this type of opportunity will give them their first taste of how voluntary and public service can contribute to the wellbeing of their communities in the future”.

The Youth Council will meet three times a year in the Council Chamber in Penmorfa, Aberaeron. The next meeting will meet on Tuesday 19 January 2016 at 5.30pm.
