Two of the country’s most revered poets are giving special Christmas readings at Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre.
Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and Gillian Clarke, the National Poet for Wales, are performing at the Maritime Quarter attraction on Friday December 11.
Two time slots are available – 5pm and 7.30pm.
The event will celebrate Carol Ann’s collected poems and her latest Christmas story, the Wren-Boys.
Gillian, after a major contribution to the Dylan Thomas Centenary year, celebrates the release of the Welsh language version of her story, the Christmas Wren.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Christmas readings from poets of such calibre at the internationally renowned Dylan Thomas Centre are sure to generate a magical, festival atmosphere.
“Their readings will combine with everything else that’s been arranged for the attraction in the build-up to Christmas, but I’d urge people to book soon to avoid disappointment.
“It’s events of this nature that cement Swansea’s status as a leading city of culture.”
Also soon taking place at the centre is the Fluellen Theatre Company’s performance of their celebrated adaptation of A Child’s Christmas in Wales on Thursday December 10 at 1pm. At 7pm on the same day, they’ll be hosting Christmas in Wales – a celebration in words and music of Christmases past and present.
Tickets for all four events are available at www.dylanthomas.com or by calling 01792 463980.
