Welsh Government Ministers have praised the “modern miracle” of the care NHS and social service staff deliver across the country in their annual Christmas message today.

Health and Social Services Minister Mark Drakeford and Deputy Minister for Health Vaughan Gething have thanked Wales’ 150,000 NHS and social care staff for their continued hard work in providing excellent standards of care.

Mark Drakeford said:

“The dedication and commitment of our health and social services staff is exceptional. Despite the all the pressures on both the NHS and social care, they go on being a modern miracle, delivering care and treatment that not so long ago would have been unthinkable.

“After another busy year, I want to thank all our staff for their dedication and hard work, something we can all be proud of.

“Every year some people want to write off the Welsh NHS and predict its imminent collapse. However, they are continually proved wrong through the service and medical care you provide every hour, every day of the year.”

Vaughan Gething said:

“Our health service is treating more people than ever before with better outcomes for people than ever before. More of us are living longer. This is down to the tireless commitment and dedication of our staff, the health service’s finest asset.

“The Welsh NHS, providing care free at the point of need, is an integral part of Wales. As a government we will continue to support our health service to provide the most effective modern, compassionate care possible.”
