Saturday, December 19 sees the last of three big events to bring thousands of people into town.
A Reindeer and Elf Day, organised by Carmarthenshire County Council and the Llanelli Star, is expected to draw even more crowds – adding to the successful Christmas carnival and Coca Cola Truck events of recent weeks that have already entertained thousands of people.
From 10am, Stepney Street and Vaughan Street will come alive with Christmas spirit as Father Christmas, his reindeer and his elves pop into town for a day of fun and frolics.
It will kick off with a Christmas carol karaoke sing-a-thon in Stepney Street from 10am, with Llanelli Round Table. There’ll be singers and choirs, and audience members are invited to take part with plenty of prizes up for grabs!
Children can meet Santa at Llanelli Library between 10.45am and 11.45am, with gifts for library members, and families will be able to meet his famous reindeer outside Boots from 11.30-2.30pm. This will be followed by an ‘Arty Party’ where children can get messy creating their own Christmas crafts, for a small charge.
Also in the centre of town from 11.15-2.30pm, will be the largest interactive Christmas card in Wales! Visitors can have their picture taken with real reindeer and elves against a 12ft Christmas backdrop – ideal for selfies and sharing on Facebook and Twitter.
Don’t forget to fill out the free Santa’s Wish List printed in this week’s Llanelli Star and bring it down on the day to hand it over to stilt-walking and roller skating elves who will deliver it to Santa ready for the big day, and receive a special ‘Santa I’m Here’ door hanger.
At 2.30pm, the reindeer and elves will bid farewell, with two lucky wish-listers winning an early present courtesy of Play King, including a free all inclusive birthday party for 10 children.
Radio Carmarthenshire will take over the main stage from 2.45-5.30pm with live entertainment, special surprises and competitions including a chance to win a pair of international flight tickets courtesy of Cardiff Airport and FlyBe.
There will be plenty more on offer throughout the day, including cookery demonstrations, recycling craft activities and character meet and greet, along with a children’s fun fair.
And last-minute Christmas shoppers can pick up some gifts from market traders – Llanelli Indoor Market has lots on offer, including free balloon modelling and face-painting, and an outdoor market with 16 stalls will line Stepney Street and Vaughan Street.
Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader of the council, said: “We are all excited about the Reindeer and Elf Day. We have worked hard with the Llanelli Star to put on a spectacular event which families can enjoy. We encourage everyone to come down, bring the family, and enjoy the event and everything else that Llanelli Town Centre has to offer.”
