Scarlets winger DTH van der Merwe has warned of his former side’s threats ahead of this weekend’s European Rugby Champions Cup clash against Glasgow Warriors at the Parc.

Disappointed to miss out on the third round battle at Scotstoun Stadium last Saturday afternoon, van der Merwe says he’s looking forward to take on his former side at his new home.

Speaking earlier this week he said: “It was disappointing to miss out on the trip to Glasgow but I have another opportunity this weekend. I’d have liked to have played at Scotstoun in front of the faithful crowd.”

Forced to watch the game on TV at his West Wales home van der Merwe went on to say it was difficult watching his side go down to a 43-6 defeat in Glasgow.

The Scarlets have had to re-group this week to ensure a good performance at the Parc. Van der Merwe went on to say: “It’s been tough. We’ve got another opportunity this weekend. We’ll all be hurting a little bit; hopefully we can do something about it this weekend.”

Glasgow’s winger Teqele Naiyaravoro scored a hat-trick against Scarlets last weekend but Scarlets’ Canadian Rugby World Cup star believes the Welsh region will be better prepared to deal with him at their Parc y Scarlets home.

“He was very impressive, he’s a hard running guy. I think we gave him too much ball. You can’t give him forward motion; he scored what could have been five tries. We will have to try and take that space away and put him under a little more pressure. I’ll put shoulder pads on and get the head taped up and away to go!

“Glasgow have threats right across the park. You can’t put two guys trying to tackle one guy. Guys like Tommy Seymour and Stuart Hogg are all dangerous.”

Scarlets will welcome Glasgow Warriors to Parc y Scarlets on Saturday 19th December, kick-off 7.45pm.
