The Lift Programme is celebrating the landmark achievement of supporting 50 clients into work since it started in April 2014.

The Welsh Government funded project is part of the Welsh tackling poverty strategy.  It works with long term unemployed individuals who live in workless households in Communities First areas.

One client who is currently benefiting from Lift support is Jeremy Warren, who has been unemployed for five years before joining the Lift Programme. So far the Lift Programme has supported Jeremy to complete a Level 2 in Customer Service. After the completion of this Jeremy went on to volunteer on a market stall that sold products made by clients with disabilities. The stall has now relocated into a permanent shop front in Stepney Street, Llanelli, and Jeremy now volunteers there.”

Jeremy said: “The lift programme has allowed me to access opportunities that given me good qualifications and really work experience that has been a huge benefit to me. After all the support I have received I feel ready for paid work.”

Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “I’m delighted that the Lift programme has been able to help Jeremy.

“The programme has performed beyond expectations since it started in April 2014.  The success of the programme is down to providing high level training opportunities to clients that are directly linked to opportunities in the labour market.”

If you live in a workless household in a Communities First Area then you could be eligible for support. Ring 01554 744307 to speak to a member of the team.
