Party revellers throughout the Christmas and New Year period are being advised to take a few precautions to ensure a safe journey home.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Licensing Section licences all taxis and private hire cars operating in the County Borough to protect passengers, ensure drivers are properly vetted and to make sure the vehicles are safe.

There are a few simple precautions you can take to ensure you get home safely.  If you are not being picked up by a friend or family member, then you should only use a licensed vehicle and where possible you should try and pre-book your journey home or alternatively use a designated taxi rank.

Before you get into any vehicle, ask to see the driver’s identification badge and check that the vehicle has a licence plate displayed on the rear of the vehicle and has door signs on the front doors; take a photograph on your phone in case you need to remember it.

Taxis licensed in Neath Port Talbot are black with a green back plate and green door signs, private hire vehicles can be any colour other than black and will have a blue back plate and blue door signs.

Principal licensing officer Neil Chapple said: “We want people to enjoy the festivities over the Christmas Period, but we also want to ensure that people get home safely. Always used a licensed vehicle and try to remember some details about the vehicle or driver’s licence number.  This will help us to trace the vehicle or driver if you have a problem or leave property accidentally”
