A thrilling seven-try derby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park saw the homeside secure a 29-27 victory in dramatic fashion in the dying moments of the New Year derby.

Despite a solid defensive effort on the whole by the Scarlets, and an attacking display that returned three tries, the Scarlets narrowly lost out on a victory in the second consecutive festive derby.

Pockets of indiscipline marred Scarlets’ positive play, with the side reduced to 13 men for a period of eight minutes in the second half.

Speaking after the game Head Coach Wayne Pivac said: “Firstly, we’re disappointed not to have won the match. There were stages where we were taking a bit of control but discipline let us down at times and allowed the Blues back in and ultimately to win the game.

“We’re disappointed with lapses of indiscipline from some of our players. We have to be better than we are in terms of our discipline, the boys know that.”

Scarlets remain atop of the Guinness PRO12 table despite the defeat with Leinster now occupying second place, only a point behind the Scarlets with a game in hand.

Scarlets will welcome Connacht to Parc y Scarlets on Sunday 10th January, kick-off 2.30pm, in what is now a hugely important game to maintain the top spot.
