Scarlets take on Connacht at Parc y Scarlets this Sunday, kick-off 2.30pm, with the region looking to get their season back on track with a victory over the Irish province.
With only one point separating the teams from first to sixth position in the Guinness PRO12 table Scarlets are well aware of the importance of securing a victory over Connacht (3rd) to remain atop of the table and the all important play-off positions.
Speaking ahead of the PRO12 clash earlier this week Parkes said; “It’s been quite an interesting last couple of weeks. She’s pretty tight up there. It’s going to be interesting from now on aswell. This game will have a big influence on the remainder of the season too. We need to get a win and get back on track.
“It’s going to be an interesting month, it’s tough to go over to Ireland and win aswell. First we have to beat them at home.”
Connacht, having lost both Christmas derbies, will be just as keen to secure a win at the Parc and Parkes believes they will be a tough challenge for the West Wales side on the weekend.
“They’re an attacking side; they’re playing some good footy this year. It should be a good challenge. I think they’re pretty dangerous across the field.”
Parkes believes it is fine margins that have seen Scarlets fall to two defeats over the festive period.
“It’s been so close but so far away with some of the last games. A couple could have gone our way but the boys are in pretty good heart.
“We need to tidy up our discipline. It’s not just the sending off, we’re giving away silly penalties but if we get those right we should be right.
“It’s all about putting a good team on the field this weekend and hopefully putting a good performance in for our supporters.”
