Police investigate death of 46-year-old Kevin Mahoney in Briton Ferry

South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the death of a man in Briton Ferry.

Officers were called to the area at 9.45am on Wednesday 6th January after the discovery of a body in a lane behind Thomas Street, at the rear of Briton Ferry Workingmen’s Club.

The death is being treated as suspicious and a 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at Swansea Central Police Station. An incident room has been set up at Sandfields Police Station.

The body has been formally identified as 46-year-old local man Kevin Barry Mahoney. His family have been informed and they continue to be supported by trained family liaison officers.

A Home Office post mortem was conducted yesterday and cause of death has not been established. Further tests are to be carried out.

Detective Superintendent Paul Hurley of the South Wales Police Specialist Crime Investigations Team said:

“Our investigation is continuing and we are appealing to anyone with information about Kevin Mahoney to come forward.

“We want to hear from anyone who saw Kevin Mahoney in the days prior to his death and who has information about where he has been, what he was wearing and who he associates with. This information could be crucial to the investigation team as we piece together the circumstances leading up to the discovery of his body on Wednesday morning.”

Police also want to hear from anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity or disturbance in or around the Thomas Street area of Briton Ferry on Tuesday or Wednesday.
