Swansea Council maps out open spaces to help plan future developments in Swansea

Swansea Council is calling on residents to get involved in a city-wide assessment of open spaces in Swansea.

The Council has completed a detailed assessment of all open spaces including land for sports and recreational use, as well as natural green spaces.

The public is now being called on to get in touch with their views or if they think any pockets of green or open space are not included in the survey.

The detailed survey looks at each individual ward in Swansea and aims to highlight any deficiencies or surplus land which qualifies as open space.

The council will use the completed document as part of its ongoing work in preparing a Local Development Plan (LDP).

Robert Francis Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The scale of the task to map out all available open space in Swansea can’t be underestimated – whether its land used for sports, recreation or natural green space.

“We would welcome the views from the public on the assessment including if they feel we have missed out a piece of land that needs to be included.”

The Council hopes to publish a draft LDP in the spring. Once the plan is approved it will be used as part of the planning process for development in the city during the next ten years.

During the drafting of the LDP, a series of consultations have taken place encouraging thousands of residents to get involved.

Cllr Francis-Davies said: “The LDP is an important document that will provide a blueprint of how Swansea develops in the next ten years.

“It has been important that we seek the views of residents and others throughout its development.”
